Troia er hele turen vejr
I sidste uge var vi en lille gruppe et par dage i Portugal og spille golf, og en af dagene kørte vi en tur til Troia, og det var en god beslutning.
I græsk mytologi var Troja centrum for den trojanske krig, og beskrevet af Homér i Illiaden. Syd for Lissabon er Troia en halvø i Setubalbugten, og på det smalle nordlige ende af øen ligger golfbanen Troia ud til Atlanterhavet bygget på sand af Robert Trent Jones Sr. Og banen er bestemt værd at skrive heltekvad om, for det er en sand perle, der ligger en lille sejltur syd for Setubal.
Troia er en af de baner, der bare skal opleves. Vi boede ikke på halvøen, og skulle derfor med færge fra Setubal på vej til golfbanen. Det er muligt at køre udenom, men turen ned til færgelejet og den lille (25 minutters) sejltur var en perfekt optakt til en forrygende dag på golfbanen.
Fra parkeringspladsen kan man kun se det moderne klubhus, men ligeså snart man kommer om på den anden side, kan man med det samme se, at det her er en helt speciel bane. Som en ægte linksbane, har naturen været den vigtigste designer, og de rå sandede ”waste” områder markerer tydeligt skellet mellem flere af hullerne. Man er tæt på havet, så jeg tror ikke man nogensinde kommer til at spille Troia i vindstille vejr, og det skal man heller ikke. Vinden gør selvfølgelig banen sværere, ikke mindst fordi det ofte er primært er sidevind man spiller i, men de sandede områder mellem hullerne stopper de fleste bolde fra at blæse et dårligt slag helt væk, og en del af oplevelsen ved at spille langs havet, er at vinden spiller med hele vejen rundt.
Hul 3 er det første hul langs Atlanterhavet, og havet, bjergene i baggrunden, og det smukke layout skaber en unik oplevelse.
Hul 1 er et relativt kort par 5 hul, men som vi lærte undervejs, så er de korte huller beskyttet af en smal fairway eller flere bunkers i landingsområdet, så man skal ikke blindt hive sin driver op på alle teesteder, men tænke sig om, og ofte prioritere præcision frem for længde. Allerede på hul 3 spiller man langs vandet, og har Atlanterhavet mindre end 100 meter fra sig. Hul 3 er et fremragende par 4 hul på 341 meter fra herretee, med sand hele vejen op langs vestre side, og med træer, der beskytter den højre side, og et enkelt træ, der beskytter den ”sikre” linje langs venstre side. Det er et utrolig smukt hul, og Robert Trent Jones har selv kaldt det et de bedste par 4 huller han har designet. Jeg har naturligvis ikke spillet alle hans baner, men jeg kan godt forstå han er stolt af det, og vi skulle altså kun tre huller inde i runden før alle vores forventninger om en unik oplevelse var blevet indfriet.
Der skal spilles rigtig god golf for at komme hjem med en score tæt på ens handicap. Banen er udfordrende, men bestemt spilbar for spillere i alle niveauer. Greens er små og ofte godt beskyttet, så også her er det vigtig med præcision og gode slag. Men selvom scoren måske ikke ender med at være prangende, så er det slet ikke det, der huskes. Undervejs og bagefter er det alle de smukke huller og den imponerende og til tider rå natur der var i fokus.
Vi nåede også at få den fulde vejrmæssige oplevelse denne dag på Troia. Sol, blæst og til sidst trak et uvejr hurtigt ind over banen fra Atlanterhavet, så vi oppe på 17. green, der ligger nærmest på et dige mod havet, knap kunne stå stille i den kraftige vind og regn, der kom ind over os i løbet af få minutter.
Troia Golf er en bane, der er værd at køre efter. Ifølge Odyssén rejste Homer i ti år efter krigen mod Troia for at komme hjem. Her kan en god times tid med bil og færge fra Lissabon gøre det, og bor man ikke på Troia, er det værd at bruge den tid på at besøge den lille perle af en golfbane.
Troia koster 102€ i greenfee, færgen til øen koster ca. 20€ hver vej fra Setubal.
